Machine Physics
Scientific Support Unit – Friedjof Tellkamp
The Scientific Support Unit for Machine Physics develops and optimizes physical and technical equipment that is used by the research teams of the Max Planck Institute for the Structure and Dynamics of Matter.
The primary objective of the SSU is the conception, design and development as well as the installation and initial operation of prototype apparatuses that find their applications in the investigation of the nature of matter. These experiments provide information on atomic and electronic processes on femtosecond time scales.
The services of the SSU include the definition of the technical requirements as well as the planning of the system design in close collaboration with the researchers. Furthermore, the SSU carries out the mechanical construction, the designing of measurement and electronic systems and also the programming of the corresponding application software. The expertise of the SSU covers the engineering disciplines mentioned above and has its focus in laser and vacuum engineering.
