Plasmons are the collective excitations of free electrons. They focus light into nanoscale volumes, increasing electromagnetic fields by orders of magnitude. Plasmonic enhancement in light scattering (SERS) leads to a 10⁸ increase in the cross section. I will present Raman measurements on graphene and nanotubes coupled to nanoplasmons. The enhancement will be described as a higher-order Raman process with striking consequences for our understanding of plasmon-matter interaction at the nanoscale.
